After I moved to Florida in 1988, a few years later I was shopping for some new dance music to play for some of my house parties.
I found an artist that could belt a dance tune and leave you begging for more. Her name is Lonnie Gordon.
Many years later, through the internet, one of her producers saw my work on my website, and contacted me.
Within a few days, Lonnie personally emailed me, then called me ( I was out of this world in heaven when she called), and then we started a friendship. The day she sang to me over the phone was the day I thought I died and went to heaven.
All those years I was playing her songs at my holiday parties I had hosted in my home. And then, to have her become my friend, wow -- thank you to the inventors of the internet!
Back in the beginning of Lonnie's and many other famous singer careers in the UK in the 80's & 90's, there was a production team called Stock Aiken Waterman.
They were the producers of such famous artists as Lonnie Gordon, Rick Astley, Kylie Minogue, Bananarama, and so many more.
That production team were known as the "hits factory". Pumping one dance hit out after another.
However, they thought Lonnie should be more of the underground club girl. She was never featured in the main light such as people like Rick Astley, Kylie and Bananarama.
But if you were a dance music collector and a club person, you knew who she and many others were. Because you were dancing to their tunes.
Later, the production team wrote a song for Donna Summer, but she turned it down. They gave it to Lonnie and it took her to the top of the dance charts in the UK . The song was called "Happening All Over Again." And American clubs were on fire with the song.
Later, Donna Summer did have the team produce an album for her and that album brought Donna back on the charts in the USA again with the hit "This Time I Know It's For Real" .
Lonnie is back in the UK now and recording some new material for the dance floors and for her one woman show called "No Apologies".
A native of NY, Lonnie's career was actually born in the UK after she had moved there.
Here is a video clip Lonnie sent me of her back in the studio behind the scenes.
And below that video are the tunes I danced to before meeting and becoming friends with this wonderful person and incredibly talented artist.
Love you, Lonnie!
